About Derek Houck

Described as the most intense short man ever seen, Derek Houck was born in Pontiac, MI. He moved to Witchita, KS before he was even a year old and spent his childhood all around the Mid-West moving to Broken Arrow, OK and then Kansas City, MO. After graduating high school, Derek headed to Los Angeles to study acting at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, finishing with an Associate’s of Arts degree. He was also a member of the 2005 Academy Company. He currently trains at the Stephen Book Acting Workshop.

As a film actor, Derek has appeared in the web series Cataclysmo and the Time Boys, where his episode gathered over 20,000 views on the web site YouTube. He has appeared in several student films including The Jukebox, Gertrude’s Game, and Absent. He has also served as a motion-capture actor for The Jim Henson Company.

Derek has performed in theater all across Los Angeles, Ventura, and Orange Counties. Theatre credits include the Orange and Ventura County premieres of Urinetown: The Musical, two productions of The Pirates of Penzance (one with Rex Smith and one with John Moschitta, Jr.), Reverie: The Dream of Cyrano de Bergerac, and the Los Angeles premiere of UG: The Caveman Musical.
