Director Erin Villaverde has developed a fine eye for subtle detail. Gerrard can’t just sit and listen to the sad tale of Belle’s father (older pro Mario DiGregorio) — he has to sit on his bent over servant, that toady LaPew, (played by Derek Houck with more than a passing resemblance to a younger Wallace Shawn).

The superhero short I was in last year, Super Undead Doctor Roach, has been released online for all to see!

Edited, written, produced and directed by Chad Clinton Freeman, Super Undead Doctor Roach is the story of a scientist obsessed with bugs, becoming an accidental super hero. It was originally a seven-minute 48 Hour Film Project produced in April of 2009. The project, edited by Michael Su, was a runner up for the Las Vegas 48 Hour Film Project Audience Award. Doctor Roach was then expanded to its 13-minute length and went on to screen at the Arizona Underground Film Festival in November 2009 and played at the bondage convention Xanadu Las Vegas 2010. Derek Houck (Silent Night, Zombie Night) stars as the short’s title character and has a supporting cast that features Henry Clarke (S4), Scream Queen guest Rachel Grubb (13 Hours in a Warehouse), as well as Juliane
Price, Reagan Pfifer, Jason Kelly, Daniel Nagelhout, Laura Moore, Kristine Wright, Ken Kupstis and Miranda Humphrey.

The 13-minute director’s cut of Super Undead Doctor Roach will screen March 28 at noon at Xanadu Las Vegas, which is toting itself as a science fiction, fantasy, horror, fetish and bondage convention for adults only.

Most promising performers in these mini plays are Jordan T. Maxwell, making a strong impression in Change of Plans and Derek Houck (Something Not Real) and Ian Federgreen (My Jovi), both rendering fast, funny comedic portrayals.

“Something Not Real” is currently playing at the Secret Rose Mini Musical Fest. The festival runs Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays at 8pm, and Sundays at 2pm until July 5th. “Something Not Real” takes place at a party, where two brothers and their wives sing about their misfortunes and their frustrations with life. I play the part of Dicky, an appropriate name for the man who crashes their conversation and serves to only make everyone feel even more uncomfortable. I hope to see you at the show!
