Derek recently went down to The Kansas City BBQ Company, where he was interviewed for KCET’s Midnight Snack column. The conversation span a number of topics, from how The Kansas City BBQ Company compares with authentic KC BBQ, to the creation of Napoleon Bon Appétit and the benefits of moving to a distribution platform like Blip:

Jason: I tend to not like to watch too many videos on my computer because it’s a small screen. Whereas now with YouTube you can get it through Xbox and boom, I can watch the whole “Napoleon Bon Appetit.” And you’re right, in high definition and on the big screen, it makes it more enjoyable. I hadn’t seen the small version, but the flour on the face in the fourth episode was cool.

Derek: Definitely. That episode benefits greatly from the high definition because a lot of it, a lot of the gag, Napoleon’s covered in flour and shakes it off at different moments and it helps to see the flour fall off of him. Through Blip and through 20/20 we’ve been able to get “Napoleon Bon Appetit” seen by more people than you’d ever been able to do before the internet came along. For as little of a budget as we had, the amount of reach that our series can get now is almost unfathomable.

The reviews are out for the West Coast premiere of “The View From Here,” and they like what they’re seeing. The Tolucan Times calls it a “compelling story” with a “cast of sophisticated actors.”

It’s the mid-80′s in a small town in Kentucky. Hair, aerobics and microwaves are all big… and Fern hasn’t left her house in 6 years. A high-spirited agoraphobic, she is perfectly happy to watch the world go by as she waits for a sign from God telling her to throw open her screen door. With a sister in the midst of an identity crisis, a wacky neighbor with never-ending horror stories, and a drama across the street involving a squalling baby and loud golf pants, hilarity ensues with a surprise gift of some real insight into the human heart.

I play Arnold, whose wife has left him and taken “every stick of furniture but the crib and the baby in it.” He knocks on Fern’s door looking for a baby-sitter, but quickly finds himself caught up in all the household drama.

“The View From Here” runs Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm, and Sundays at 7pm until June 12th at the Actors Workout Studio, located at 4735 Lankershim Blvd., North Hollywood, CA 91602. Tickets are $18 and can be purchased by calling the Box Office (818-506-3903) or online at Brown Paper Tickets.

Discount tickets are also available at LA Stage Alliance and Stubdog. I hope to see you all there!

Set your DVRs, because I will appearing on the Season 3 premiere of United States of Tara on Showtime tonight at 10:30pm ET/PT!

In the Season 3 premiere, Tara decides to finish the last few credits she needs to earn her college degree, but Max worries the stress will trigger a transition to one of her alters; Kate tries to plan the next phase of her life; Charmaine is pregnant but still avoids committing to Neil; Marshall and Lionel purchase a video camera together for filmmaking class. I play a waiter in Barnabeez, the seafood restaurant Kate Gregson used to work at.

Executive Produced by Steven Spielberg and created by Diablo Cody, the Academy Award winning writer of Juno, the SHOWTIME Original Series United States of Tara returns for a third season. Suburban wife and mother Tara Gregson (Emmy Award winner Toni Collette) juggles her family and career while suffering from Dissociative Identity Disorder — a condition formerly known as multiple personality disorder. It’s never a dull moment in the
Gregson household, as Tara’s supportive husband Max and their two teenaged children, Kate and Marshall, try to lead as much of a “normal” life as possible.

Kimberly Leemans, Nicholas James and Heidi Schooler among the new cast in the second season of ‘the cooking show with a complex’

LOS ANGELES – “Napoleon Bon Appétit,” the cooking show with a complex, returns for a second season on March 9th with several new cast members, including former “America’s Next Top Model” finalist, Kimberly Leemans. Derek Houck (“Super Undead Doctor Roach,” “Absent”) returns as Napoleon Bonaparte, as does Katherine Browning (“The Carpenter”) who plays his Kitchen Wench.

“I actually went to boarding school in Waterloo, Belgium, so I already felt like I had a ‘history’ with Napoleon,” said Leemans, who will be portraying Napoleon’s mistress, Eléonore Denuelle.

Other guest stars this season include Nicolas James, Heidi Schooler, Rachel Whitman and Robert Walters. Christine Moore also returns as the famous French chef, Louisette Caro.

“It’s good to see Napoleon finally meet his match,” Moore said. “Louisette Caro knows how to keep him in line.”

“Napoleon Bon Appétit” was written by Houck. Browning serves as the producer, along with David Walters. All episodes were directed by the Accolade award-winning Mike Campbell. The series is from Black Falcon Productions and Mahatma Dragon Productions in association with Three Roses Entertainment.

“Napoleon Bon Appétit” will be conquering a new recipe every two weeks on Somebody’s Basement and www.NapoleonBonAppetit.com.

A while ago, I shot a commercial for the new Sony Bloggie. That commercial is now up on YouTube for all the world to see!

The shoot was entirely improvised, so I had no idea which take was going to eventually be used in the commercial. In the take they chose, I try my best to describe a funny story that happened to my character’s cat. If you love kittens, I promise there’s a reward for you at the end of the spot. If cuteness could be weaponized, this would be nuclear-grade plutonium.

This spot is part of a larger “You Had To Be There” marketing campaign for the Bloggie. I would love to lay claim to the spot with the most YouTube views of the entire campaign, so if you like what you see, please tell others about it.
